It’s been a while, but I’m blogging again about Canadian politics, law and world affairs from a distinctly Canadian, conservative, perspective.
“Why the new blog name?” you might ask. One of the frustrating things about being a conservative, particularly a Canadian conservative, is that you’re surrounded by idiots. Sure, there are Liberals and NDPers and a whole collection of lefties who frustrate the hell out of you, but they’re really the least of my problems. It’s the goddamned stupid conservatives (at least, self-described as such) who drive me up the fucking wall. No better way to undermine really good ideas, than to have them advanced by unthinking fools.
To be a thinking conservative in this day and age marks you out as something of a lone wolf, unwelcome among the unthinking sheep on the left – because you’re likely to savage them – but not part of the pack of followers on the right, who turn off their brains and follow the leader (was there every a more pathetic display of this tendency than the disgraceful sight of moderate Republicans voting for Donald Trump?). So that’s me, the Canadian Lone Wolf.
Here’s another “Classic Bob” rant from last year on the decision by Justice Malloy, of the Ontario Court of Justice, striking down the provisions of the Criminal Code imposing a mandatory minimum 3-year sentence for possession of a loaded handgun. Justice Paul Bellefontaine later struck down a related provision on similar grounds last summer:

In light of the fiasco that is the Parti Quebecois‘ proposal
to turn Quebec into arguably the least tolerant jurisdiction in North America to impose controversial restrictions on language and religious displays, I thought this older piece might be appropriate. It arose from this story about a Muslim woman who was told to remove her Niqab if she wanted to attend a French language/civics class, because, among other things, the teacher couldn’t see her lips to ensure she was learning French properly. In response, she filed a human rights complaint with the Quebec human rights tribunal. Enjoy!
I’m never sure who to cheer for in these cases.

In a follow-up to this morning’s “This is ONE of the Reasons why Johnny Can’t read…” post on the general lack of common sense in our public schools, here’s another “Classic Bob” rant from last December, responding to the story of a 7-year-old boy who was threatened with a suspension for “sexual harassment” for kicking another boy in the groin, after that boy allegedly stole his gloves and choked him. In fact, according to the boy’s mother, the school principal went so far to accuse the boy of “sexual assault”.

Someone asked me to start posting some of my original – Classic Bob – email rants which inspired this blog. Here’s one first prepared on October 6, 2011, in preparation for the Ontario provincial election (some of the names have been changed to protect the innocent):
Joe asked me to rant about today’s provincial election. Why, I don’t know, but I’m a sucker for a rant.
This may come as a surprise to you, but my own inclinations are pretty hard-core conservative (No! Surely not). So I’ve cast my vote for the Tories (not that it really matters, where I live, the Tories could run Satan and still win with a hefty margin). I would generally encourage you to do the same. But I can’t say that I’ve been particularly impressed with the Tory campaign. Don’t get me wrong, I like Tim Hudak and I even think he would be a pretty good premier, but this has been a Joe Clark/Stockwell Day of a campaign.

Someone asked me to start posting some of my original – Classic Bob – email rants which inspired this blog. Here’s one first prepared June 28, 2011, in response to yet another story of US TSA officers harassing innocent air travellers:
Here’s the story of the TSA standing behind it’s security officer who forced a 95-year old woman to remove her adult diaper so that they could check her.
Where to begin?

Someone asked me to start posting some of my original – Classic Bob – email rants which inspired this blog. Here’s one first prepared November 15, 2011, at the height of the “Occupy” movement:
My attention was drawn to this article in some lefty rag, where the author confesses to the mortal sin of being a member of the “1%” and discusses the anguish and loneliness that comes with it.
Boy, talk about a first world problem!
